Made With Rattan Care Guide

Rattan Furniture has a very natural and elegant feel to it. Our furniture is made with care and made to last. We would like to inform you on how to take the best care and prolong the life of your garden furniture.

Most of our sets are made from PE (Polyethene) ranging from up to 22mm thick! This thermoplastic resin is eco friendly and fully recyclable. PE is known for its strength and durability relative to its PU & PVC counterparts. With its UV and mould resistant properties it is an all-around weatherproof material, perfect for all year British weather; Although, to extend the life of your furniture we always recommend covering the set during winter and times it is not being used.

Cushions

The cushions we provide with our furniture are thick memory foam fillers with a showerproof cover. Showerproof means they can withstand a small amount of liquid but the seams are not sealed completely. This allows for extra comfort as air can pass through the cushions. Whenever not in use, we advise storing your cushions indoors, somewhere dry and warm is ideal. Even if you have a rain cover for your furniture, leaving your cushions outside can significantly reduce their lifespan.

Replacement cushions and cushion covers can be purchased upon enquiry. Kindly contact us for more information.

Table Tops

All our Rattan tables come with a glass top and a rattan weaved tabletop. As sunlight passes through glass, heat will get trapped under the top this is also known as the greenhouse effect. Additionally, glass magnifies heat which is hot enough to start fires. Whilst our PE Rattan can withstand sunlight more effectively than its counterparts PU & PVC, the more heat builds up under the glass the more likely the Rattan will melt.

Note: This is an industry standard. Every synthetic rattan has a melting point and can only withstand so much heat.

To prevent this from happening it is important to ensure the table does not spend prolonged periods out in direct sunlight (unless the glass is removed). Adding further glass to the table such as a wine glass can cause further magnification of this heat creating spall burn holes in the rattan. Whenever placing the glass on the table be sure to use a heatproof mat or a coaster.

Other sources of heat and naked flames such as a BBQ, fire pit or outdoor heater can cause stress to the glass or burns to the rattan also. Ensure if a source of heat is in use it should not be within proximity of your rattan set.

A quick tip: if you were to accidentally scratch your glass top try rubbing on some nail polish remover or toothpaste and the scratch should buff out. Ensure this chemical does not come into contact with your rattan and that the glass top is cleaned afterwards with a dry cloth.

Moving your Rattan set

Please be careful not to drag your Rattan set and this can cause splits in the fibres of the weave. Lift this fully off the ground whenever you want to move your set.

Cleaning your Rattan Set.

  • Firstly you will want to remove your cushions and glass top before cleaning your rattan furniture. Our Rattan is easy to clean. You will need a soft cloth and potentially some water if the set is really dirty. Abrasive products may reduce the lifespan of your garden set.
  • Gently wipe down your furniture with a damp cloth and then dry it down with a dry cloth.
  • Cushion covers are machine washable please see the labels for more information. Please ensure it is a cold wash only. They are also relatively easy to clean by hand. Please do not put these covers in the dryer and they will most likely shrink.
  • Tabletops can be cleaned with any suitable glass cleaner.

There are plenty of other methods to clean your rattan furniture. We always advise what will likely prolong the life of your furniture. When you hire a professional cleaner please refer them to this guide to get the best result.
